Gentlemen - A couple of brothers asked me questions about AI disruption of the future job market at the last Roots dinner, and a couple have contacted me since. Here's what's coming down the pike (a freight train): Logical AI (which can figure things out on its own) will be coming to almost all fairly routine and information-based types of job soon (even complex ones, like being a doctor), and robotics, both human-like and non-human-like will take over many many semi-routine jobs (all transportation - driving cars, planes, ships, trains, etc.) - the military (robot airplanes, spaceships, tanks, ships, subs and soldiers) - construction and really building anything - household work (check out Elon Musk's Optimus robot - perhaps the biggest new market for a product in the history of mankind), etc. etc. The technological revolution we are in is increasing in scalability exponentially or even hyper-exponentially - which means things will be upon us faster than you or I can imagine. My advice: whatever profession you want to go into, know fully well 1) how AI is already integrated into that profession and how to use well that AI; and 2) how AI may transform that profession in the future. Once in your profession (or business), think every day about how to increase productivity with AI and robots (if you don't others will surpass you - fast); 3) be a visionary - think far ahead of what might come to be and work toward that far ahead. Almost no one will be spared - though the most human and emotionally-based jobs will go last - in particular leadership, and things like teaching. But it's all going to be affected. I enjoyed my decade and three as a teacher immensely. Your kids may have a holographic AI teacher who knows and deeply understands your (and every other) kid's psychological profile and learning strengths and weaknesses. It will give great lectures to the class, and design individual and targeted homework and mini-lectures for each and every student every day - based on what is best for that particular student. It will grade super fast; it will calculate grades super fast; it will be able to talk to parents about best at home strategies. It will do it all. As you go into your professions, actively use AI to make your work great. Seize the day, gents, while you may. Don't be afraid - we are entering the biggest productivity gain humanity has ever experienced. Be part of it. Wait! We're Lamps. Be a BIG part of it. - - - Oh yeah - what about our agricultural businesses in the Philippines - ethanol (sugar cane), tobacco, bamboo, etc.? We use AI now to semi-run the company and especially to design daily care protocols for each and every crop and part of crop in every area we are in. We use drones to daily survey all crops and immediately spot and alleviate problems. We use AI for shipping and transporting efficiencies. We are even considering using AI 'negotiators.' (To be discussed on our forthcoming trip to the Philippines.). The world won't run itself for a few generations yet; be on the cusp of the tidal wave advancing, not in the dead sea behind it. Good providence brothers!
